“Work design for municipal companies in digital innovation and change processes (AKTIV-kommunal)”

Project data: Duration 04/2017 - 03/2021, BMBF, FKZ 02L15A100

The AKTIV-kommunal project develops concepts and solutions for the implementation of digital change processes in the municipal sector. In three interlinked project modules, the scientific partners are developing solutions for the realignment of digital work processes and the implementation of digital working models together with the municipal implementation companies. In addition, digital management concepts are being introduced. Employees, managers and works councils are actively involved in the development of digital design solutions as experts in an integrated project approach. The approaches and the results achieved during implementation are incorporated into a “SME transfer concept” and a “2025 model for the municipal economy” in order to provide relevant solutions for designing digital working environments.

The Chair of Human Resources and Corporate Management is participating in this joint project with two research modules and as consortium leader. The project is being carried out in cooperation with Fraunhofer IAO (Stuttgart), badenova AG & CO. KG, Stadtwerke Heidelberg GmbH, Stadtwerke Konstanz and INPUT consulting gGmbH. The two research modules are as follows:

  • Development of approaches to digital leadership under municipal framework conditions
  • Development of a human resources model for the design of digital work in municipal companies

“Service innovations and electromobility - the automotive trade as a holistic solution provider (DEAL)”

Project data: Duration 7/2014 - 7/2017 (1st part and 2nd part), BMBF, FKZ 01 FE14023

The aim of the DEAL joint project is to identify opportunities for the automotive trade through service innovations in the field of electromobility in order to become a holistic solution provider in future mobility. The background to this objective is the current framework conditions in the field of electromobility. These are characterized by the fact that activities and measures relating to electromobility have so far been largely concentrated on car manufacturers and suppliers. The automotive trade as a direct interface to the customer, on the other hand, is still neglected. This is surprising, as the automotive trade has lucrative prospects for a complete realignment of its existing business activities. This reorientation is only made possible by the direct contact between the automotive trade and the customer and requires no longer thinking and working in the established sales categories of bundling vehicles and accompanying services, such as car insurance. Instead, the focus is on developing integrated combinations of electric vehicles and (innovative) services in order to offer attractive overall solutions for the individual customer's mobility problem of getting from A to B.

In the field of electromobility, the automotive trade thus faces the major challenge of whether and how it can make the entrepreneurial transition from service provider to solution provider. The joint project is being carried out in cooperation with the two other UDE chairs of Prof. Proff (project coordination) and Prof. Schmitz as well as with LUEG AG and the Mercator Executive School GmbH.

The Chair of Human Resources and Corporate Management is participating in this joint project with the research module “Development of a basic architecture for an HR organization for the successful development and implementation of electromobile service innovations in the automotive trade”.

“Crowdsourcing charging services by small providers as an innovative business model (CrowdStrom)”

Project data: Duration 12/2013 - 01/2017 (1st part and 2nd part), BMBF, FKZ 01 FE13021

The CrowdStrom project is developing an innovative service business model that enables the use of small and private charging points by other (third-party) users. Such a business model requires new standardized service processes such as cross-supplier billing of charging processes. CrowdStrom addresses these challenges with a crowd sourcing system approach. The methodically supported determination of price expectations, willingness to pay and the relevance of tangible and intangible incentive instruments supports the design of incentive systems. A detailed analysis identifies legal hurdles to the implementation of the concept that arise when consumers become “electricity traders”. CrowdStrom is also developing a software portal for handling processes and data flows between the market participants involved. The operation of this portal and the integration of the partial services of the market participants is the basis for an innovative service business model for utilities and mobility infrastructure operators. As a result, the operation of a public charging infrastructure is made possible on the basis of existing private supply facilities.

The Chair of Human Resources and Corporate Management is participating in this joint project, which is being carried out in cooperation with Stadtwerke Münster, TÜV Süd and the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster, with two research modules:

  • Analysis of the design of incentive systems that can support the opening of private charging stations
  • Development of a concept for the organizational and personnel development of the operator of the innovative business model in order to support its implementation.

“Integrated service productivity diagnostics in hospital care” (InDiPro)

Project data: Duration 2011 - 2014, BMBF, FKZ 01FL10063

The overall objective of the joint project was to analyze the productivity of hospital nursing using an integrated diagnostic concept from a multidimensional perspective and to derive design recommendations for nursing practice based on productivity-enhancing influencing factors. By developing an integrated productivity model, the previously predominantly single-factor evaluation of productivity in hospital nursing was expanded to include several perspectives, which enabled a reorientation of productivity evaluation.

At the Chair of Human Resources and Management, the employee-related model components of the integrated productivity model were analyzed in particular. With the “quality of working life” and “employee retention”, employee-related output variables in hospital care were considered for the first time in the productivity context. The productivity relevance of the employee-related model components was initially examined as part of an empirical-qualitative study. The relationship between these two constructs, which was assumed on the basis of conceptual-theoretical considerations, was then analyzed as part of an empirical-quantitative study. A diagnostic concept for the employee-related output variables “quality of working life” and “employee retention” was also developed to record and carry out the analyses.

"Integrated productivity management for services in SMEs ” (ProDiK)

Project data: Duration 2009 - 2012, BMBF FKZ 01FL09002

The joint project developed the “Service Navigator” for small and medium-sized enterprises, a set of tools for the strategic productivity management of service companies. A coaching package was developed and tested for transfer into practice in order to enable as many companies as possible to use the Service Navigator.

At the Chair of Human Resources and Management, research activities in both project phases focused exclusively on medium-sized companies. In the first project phase, which focused on the development of the Service Navigator prototype, extensive analyses were carried out on the basis of qualitative interviews with the management of medium-sized companies. In the second phase of the project, the use of the Service Navigator was tested in selected medium-sized companies. Management consultants were brought in to develop the application of the Service Navigator with the companies. In this second phase, the Chair of Human Resources and Management provided comprehensive scientific support for the work of the management consultants with the medium-sized companies in order to evaluate the practical suitability of the Service Navigator and to develop well-founded starting points for the coaching package.

“International Performance Measurement in the context of the internationalization of SME logistics companies” (Int-PEM)

Project data: Duration 2007-2009, BMBF: FKZ 01HQ 0505)

The aim of the joint project was to develop an integrated corporate development approach for SME logistics companies and, in particular, to consider internationalization potential in contract logistics. In the first phase of the project, the Chair of Human Resources and Corporate Management was involved in the analysis of operational best practice examples for the internationalization of contract logistics service providers. In the second phase of the project, the Chair of Human Resources and Corporate Management conducted independent empirical surveys on the success factors for the internationalization of small and medium-sized logistics companies. In the third phase of the project, the Chair of Human Resources and Corporate Management developed an internationalization guide based on these results in order to support logistics SMEs in their internationalization efforts.
